Why Is My Child Wetting Herself Again
Why Has My Potty Trained Child Started Wetting Himself?
Potty preparation is a dark art: Some children manifestly learn overnight, and some just can't be bothered. Plus children can forget their newfound skills, and start having accidents again after you thought y'all'd completed the procedure.
When one mum wrote in for advice, our community had some not bad suggestions, including getting your child involved with the cleanup, rewards systems, and simple persistence!:
"Hi Mums. I'm so stressed, I started potty training my son in May, he will exist 3 in Baronial and starting preschool in September. I've been told that he needs to be fully trained before he starts. It was keen at the beginning (I took everything off the lesser half and by the end of the week he was trained at home).
Up until this calendar week he was doing bang-up, and fifty-fifty with underpants and reminders about his wee wees he has been great with very few accidents. But the last ii days have been a nightmare: He is weeing everywhere, he will run for his potty for his poos, only just does it in his underwear for the wees.
I proceed asking him if he has to become and he says no, and 2 minutes subsequently he has it washed in his underwear, he also doesn't seem to care about sitting in wet underwear. Whatever suggestions or ideas would exist nifty. Thanks!"
We Feel Your Pain!
Kalish: My son went through this phase for the first few weeks and has never wet in the dark fourth dimension, only then started weeing and pooing in his pants. He simply used to laugh at me no matter what I did. He would never do it for anyone else; if he went off with my mam etc. He was just playing upward with me, looking for attention. So I'd say your son will be fine in school. Only keep going, and praising him when he goes on the toilet.
Elís:My son is doing the same. He stood upward on the sofa and weed on himself the other day, but getting lazy. I'd say now the thrill of being a " big boy" has worn off, he wants to go along playing instead of stopping to go. My daughter did the same too ... Just go along asking if he needs to get, and eventually he'll terminate going on himself. It's head-wrecking, simply doesn't last forever thankfully!
Lyndsey We had a great 7 weeks, and now all of a sudden she will just become here, there and everywhere!!! I've had to bin and so many bottoms, they've been so bad!! Going to do upwardly a sticker chart tomorrow and do a treat at the terminate of the mean solar day!

Go Them To Make clean Upwardly
Clodagh: I'm not sure if it works, but I've heard that if you get the child to help you clean up the wee, it helps them to recollect to go… might be worth a shot?
Dee:I've done this: Every fourth dimension he did a wee on the floor, I'd be like 'Ok, here y'all go, clean upward.' If he washed it in his pants, I'd get him to remove pants and put them in the wash, and say 'Ok, get the wipes & make clean your legs.' Can't say for certain it works, just he was fully trained in three weeks.
Jemma: Yeah, getting them to take off their moisture wearing apparel themselves etc, helps too!

Advantage Successes
Julie: Have a treat box, then when he goes on the potty he gets a treat. I did it with my daughter and it worked brilliant. Maybe try the toilet instead of the potty?
Maria: Y'all may need to retrain him and use a reward system like stickers. Same thing happened with my son: He is grand now, with the odd accident. Especially when he'south outdoors playing with other children, he doesn't want to become to the toilet in case he misses out on playing.
Alice: Blackmail! Sounds awful but worked for me. I knew he needed to go. He'd say he didn't, but pee 2 mins later. Solid get-go telling him no Idiot box until he goes. Or no water ice cream. Or whatever, and he'd go no problem as he was most likely bursting anyway.
Lisa: After numerous attempts over the concluding few months: Reward charts, praise, reading books while she was on the loo, spending a full weekend bringing our piddling one to the toilet every 30 minutes; bribery was the merely affair that worked for united states. 1 chocolate button for doing a wee and two for a poo. It's worth a try.
Theresa: We had this with our son, a couple of weeks into training. He only betoken-bare refused to use the potty. We figured he was ill to the teeth of us asking him 'Did he need to go' and so permit him exist for half a twenty-four hour period, and so introduced a different advantage for using the potty. Let's just say I did a lot of very silly dances, sometimes in public, for virtually a week. He's now flying and request for privacy while going. Good luck!

Just A Stage
Courtney: Keep at it. My son is also 3 in August, trained since March but went through a phase in May where he had heaps of accidents for near a calendar week. Back to normal at present.
Trish: It'southward a stage they all go through after a few weeks of learning. My 3 footling fellas all done this, and so back to normal.
Michelle: Keep doing what you're doing, don't terminate at present! Most kids get on fine afterwards the first week or two, and so a few weeks later some will start having accidents over again. Endeavour not to get stressed well-nigh him having to exist fully potty trained for preschool, just let them know where he is with it, and ask them to remind him to go to the bathroom. If he does have an accident, they shouldn't heed irresolute him: I work as a preschool teacher, and don't mind having to remind them to get to the bathroom, or changing if they have an accident. September is chip away: I'm sure he will be accident free by then. If not don't worry, just let preschool know and send actress underwear and bottoms in with him.
Margaret: I went through that equally well when my piffling lad was 3. He always said no, merely I would sit him on the potty for a minute or ii, and tell him he is a big boy at present. Merely accidents do happen.

Alisha: If he is doing his poos in the potty and wetting himself, I'd have him to the doctor, to get checked for a UTI. My daughter had one when she was just 3 and refused to pee until the last second and would and so wet herself.
Megan: The hot weather could be bothering him if he is drinking more than fluids? My son is similar that if he is unwell. One time he becomes any scrap unwell he has accidents, it'southward how I can tell now. Perhaps he is brewing something?

Venessa: I run a preschool. I have a degree in early years and constantly updating my professional development. Under no circumstances would I refuse a kid who is not trained. Early years services have to realise that with the 2 year ECCE scheme bachelor now, children will exist younger starting and may non be fix to be trained. Likewise, I would love to know what the original stance would be on a child with additional needs. They are not an inclusive setting and I would highlight that matter to them.
